POKKIRI RAJA:
Director: Vaishak
Music:Jassie Gift
Cast:
Mammootty………Raja
Prithviraj……………Soorya
Shriya Saran………Aswathy
Directed by debutante Vyshakh, the movie Pokkiri Raja brings together Mammootty and Prithviraj for the first time on screen. It also marks the debut of actress Shreya Saran in Malayalam industry. Pokkiri Raja in one word can be categorized as a mass masala entertainer.
The film begins twenty years prior to the present time and the situation prompts Raja (Mammootty) to go in prison and then to Madurai five years later. He becomes a successful Goonda and grows in power and wealth. Fifteen years passed by, Raja takes a kottation to kill a man named Surya in Kerala, but later recognizes that it was his own blood brother. The first part of the film has importance to Prithviraj until the Mega star arrives. The punch dialogues in post interval session have made the audience go crazy with their love for the star.
Prithviraj as Mammootty's brother attracts the audience with his punching fists, dancing legs and comedy oriented dialogues. With this film he proved to be next only to the Big M's (in which ever order you place the 'M'). Shreya's debut into Malayalam as Prithviraj's heroine adds Oooooommps. The film doesn't have a single dull moment and will be enjoyable for family audience.
Salim Kumar as novelist Manoharan Mangolodayam and Suraj Venjarammoodu as Police officer work hand in hand to add fun to the scenes. Udayakrishna â Sibi K. Thomas proved yet another time that they remain unchallenged in the field since they know, what the movie going audience need. Visuals are beautifully enhanced from Shaji's camera. New editor Mahesh Narayanan is fast paced.
Changes shown in the growth of actors' appearance through the years are not good. Music by Jessie Gift is fresh and moves every hip. B.G score by Rajamani is impressive. The film is done in a festive mood and keeps up with the standard and expectations it gave through the teasers.
A relaxing film on the whole...

PAZHASSI RAJA
Direction: Hariharan
Producer: Gokulam Gopalan
Music: Illayaraja
Lyrics: ONV Kurup, Gireesh Puthenchery & Kanesh Punoor
Starring: Megastar Mammootty,Sarath Kumar,Padmapriya,Kaniha Subramaniam,Manoj.K.Jayan,Thilakan,Jagathi Sreekumar,Suresh Krishna,Suman, Linda Arsenio
The long anxious wait is over and the classic movie Pazhassi Raja has released in all the major theatres with much enthusiasm. The Hariharan – MT Vasudevan team is back with their historical venture with MAMMOOTTY at the helm after a span of 20 long years. The three had last teamed up for Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, which was a superhit and had also fetched Mammootty a National Award ..Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha was a novel venture and Pazhassi Raja can only heap laurels on the makers for their creative endeavour.
Pazhassi raja travels back in time to the 18th century when Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja hailing from the Kottayam Royal family stood up to face the unjust policies of the East India Company which had tried to establish its regime. Pazhassi Raja raised his voice against the unjust revenue policy, which they tried to impose in Malabar. The tax policy caused much chaos and there was widespread agitation.
The film opens with Veeravarma essayed by veteran actor Thilakan sending a letter to the East India Company informing them of collecting taxes on their behalf. This endeavour is later taken up by Pazhayamveedan Chandhu played by Suman. However Pazhassi Raja strongly opposes this move and harps on guerilla warfare to establish peace in the area.
The Company unable to come to terms with Pazhassi Raja’s rebellion enters into a treaty with him. However as we are all aware of the Company treacherous ways, they do not keep their word and leads to a war between Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja and the East India Company. The Kurichiyar tribe members offer support to the king in his fight for justice.
Thalakkal Chanthu (Manoj K Jayan) leads the tribals, while Edachena Kunkan (Sarath Kumar) the commander-in-chief of Pazhassi Raja offer unflinching support to the King. The Lion of Kerala, as he was fondly known had to forsake his kingdom and family in this war for freedom.
Mammootty has proven once again that he has more mettle than anyone can vouchsafe for. Tamil actor Sarath Kumar is a pleasant surprise and Manoj K Jayan is back with a bang. The manliness of these three characters is a novel sight for the audience. Kaniha as Pazhassi Raja’s wife Makkam, Suresh Krishna as Kaitheri Ambu, Lalu Alex as Emman Nair, Captain Raju as Unni Mootha add to the meaning of the cinema. So also Peter Evans as Major James and Harry Key as Thomas, the representatives of the East India Company deserve special credit for their performance.
With the music by Ilayaraja and special sound effects by Resul Pookutty, the movie is a treat for movie lovers. Technically, the movie scales higher and so does the camera work by Venu and Ramanath Shetty.
The film suffers from minor hitches like the foreign accent of Padmapriya who has dubbed for herself and some sloppy fight scenes. However one may overlook these weaknesses, considering the film in its entirety. History let us leave it to the historians, but as a piece of art, the movie definitely commends applause.
The movie will be dubbed in three other languages, Hindi, Telegu and Tamil. The film will have a special narration at the beginning in each language, with kamal Hassan narrating for Tamil, Shahrukh Khan in Hindi and Chiranjeevi in Telugu.
The movie has been made at a budget over Rs.25 crore. The music has been taken care of by Illayaraja and Oscar winner Resul Pookutty has looked after the sound effects
A must watch movie,
awards are definitely in the line we hope for Pazhassi Raja.

Review:
Ee Pattanathil Bootham movie is about Jimmy ( Mammooty) who is an orphan. He is reared up by Krishnettan (Innocent) and runs a street circus group. Jimmy and Sisupalan (Suraj Venjaramoodu), are the expert bike jumpers and their daredevil jump acts are the major highlights of the group.
Jimmy is also a main enemy of the big mafia associated with begging industry, and has saved many street children from this gang of goons. These children ultimately become a part of Jimmy’s family. When Jimmy and Krishnetten join the big Jumbo circus group, run by Philipose, the children also move with them.
Later Jimmy is falsely accused of an offence and is sent to jail which leave the children with no one to care off.Into these troublesome conditions arrives the ghost, who helps the children from further worries. The ghost who befriends children also uses his super natural powers to fight the injustice in the society.
Ee Pattanathil Bhootham is Kavya Madhavan’s maiden film released after her marriage. Kavya has only a limited role in the film, though she plays an important character.
Comedy by Suraj and Salim Kumar works well. Music by Shaan suits to film and impressive.

Review:
As they say in politics, 'catch them young' is the phrase Mammootty seems to follow these days. He appears to have more friends in schools than in colleges.
Debutant Ashiq Abu has done good work though his script is weak. Many characters are one dimensional.
Kid actor as Mammootty’s son fetches viewer’s affection. Richa Pallod adds freshness to frame. Biju Menon makes a strong presence as the friend of protagonist. Saikumar portraits the character of a senior Crime Branch official. Rajan .P. Dev and Bheeman Raghu flicks in a scene.
Story
Mammootty is a crime branch officer who is very attached to his son. He is a cricket fan and is lazy. The first part showcases the relationship between the son and his dad and how it creates problems in his career. The later part deals with how his career affects family. The story tries to satisfy all those who watch the film by equally giving importance to sentiments, action and style and is successful to a big extend.
In the film there are many references to Mammootty’s old hits. High decibel background music is used in many places. The monologue in the first part by Richa Pallod is a cliché in even cliché’s standard.
Sameer Thahir has done his work, but don’t expect anything above average.
Title graphics by Rajeev Gopal. K is astounding. Viewers get thrilled to watch the graphics which singularly holds the audience till interval. The film decelerates after the title graphics.
Songs are good and Generation Y enjoys singing it. Mammootty is handsome as always.
This is a film you can go with your family. The film will be a treat for kids.
